When you are asked to help furnish a home that is newly built and the customer is not taking anything from home, that is a dream come true for most design firms. For this project, the client met with us and we clicked right away. Sometimes, you can just feel their psyche. She wanted tones to work with the house that sits on farmland from the past. It was a beautiful setting with so many windows to see the view. The builder set the tones for some rooms, but because the builder used a light color, resembling white, it was easy to put the colors of our client’s choice in their home. We, of course, do what we love to do. In the end, we popped in those colorful paintings to bring depth and perspective to their finished look. The home is open with board ceilings and beams and it has covered porches. I love all the texture it has, which includes some brick on the walls in the breakfast/dining room. Obviously, as a design firm, we love texture and include a lot of it in our fabrics and design. Fabrics such as leather, herringbones, print fabrics, cotton, velvets, and silks all play a role in the design. We ordered a farmhouse table that was finished in a gray-tone stain and has an extra leaf, in case there is company coming to dinner. We mixed in white finished barstools and blue houndstooth fabric on the seats of the barstools along with brown leather on the dinette chairs. The sideboard is a deeper gray stained finish to complement the dinette table. The light fixture was already there so we played off the metal with some added accents. The sofa was a warm medium neutral tone and we added a leather recliner with an ottoman. The owner sat in it, and I could feel his relaxing mood. The console table and cocktail table have twig metal legs which give a lot of interest to the room. Rugs are made of sisal grass with blended colors of blue and tan for the kitchen and a navy stripe for the living room. We carried the same sisal grass feel to the foyer and in the hallway that leads to the bedroom. Every time I go to the home, I really don’t want to leave. This home is the embodiment of a beautiful, elegant Countryside Farmhouse. You would love it.
