We have enjoyed helping our clients design and remodel their kitchen. Every time a trip was made to the house by the DeLugas design team, we would see something come out of boxes that sparked my curiosity. Old yellow pottery ware, Grandma’s china dishes, Great Grandma’s Toile dishes, cutting boards, and lots of vintage recipe books were displayed nicely. So, turning a traditional kitchen of their newly purchased 20-year-old house into a modern farmhouse made sense. They were very good with what they wanted; therefore, the project was easy. The husband painted the entire house on the inside and loved being busy, since he is now retired. My client said we want color in every room. It was outside our norm, but I think we got it right. The cabinets were revamped to move the drawers to the island where for some odd reason, there was an oven. I do not think any of us had ever seen that before. Also, the upper cabinets on one end was removed and floating shelving was built to also showcase more treasures from the past. A buttery wall color was selected to pop all the white cabinets. It was a big kitchen with so much light and windows. An old deep TV cabinet was reworked to create a glass china cabinet with book-shelving on the sides for the vintage cookbooks. A new corner vent hood was built, and a new gas range was installed. New white solid surface countertops with a new sink, faucet, and an island pendant light were installed. A black faucet made perfect sense with the new décor by adding one more bit of farmhouse style to the house. We ordered a simple farmhouse straight leg table with comfortable chairs/arms. The fabric was complementary to the room with all the antique dishes showcased. It was so much fun working with treasures from the past. As you can imagine, welcoming.
