It seems that now more than ever, we are looking for ways to focus on the thing we value most; having some downtime at home.  A natural outcome of this is creating special places in your home that provide a comfortable refuge.   In the home, some folks unwind in their kitchens by trying a new recipe, while others head for their sofa for a little rest and relaxation, conversation with family, or to watch a favorite TV show.  By choosing just the right sofa, your living room can become a place for a mini vacation…a brief retreat without leaving home.

What I love best about selecting a sofa for myself or my clients are the endless options we have today.  We start with the sizing and scale based on our client’s needs.  Because we can purchase sofas by the inch, sizing is up to the dreamer.  We take into consideration not only the size of the room, but also the size of the person using the sofa.  The extended depth option ensures maximum comfort for those with long legs.  Next, we look at all the options to accommodate your unique style.  You can choose rounded or square back cushions, tapered legs or waterfall skirt, corded or non corded cushions, a traditional English arm or a contemporary track arm, or anything in between.

Once you’ve selected one of the thousands of fabrics that we have to offer, it’s time to focus on the details.  You can add nailhead trim in a variety of sizes and colors, whether it’s hammered brass or shiny chrome.  If you prefer decorative cording or trim for an extra flare, there are plenty of choices.  Greek key trims are still trendy when used as banding around the bottom of a chair or sofa.  You see what I mean when I say the possibilities are endless.

Sectional sofas are very popular right now.  Most people like a squared off back and corner rather than rounded or angled, which can take up more space.  Sectionals can be customized with all the same options above.   You must sketch your room size to properly scale a sectional and order the correct pieces.  There are times we add an armless chair in the mix of to add length.  We can add a chaise to one end or the other if space allows.  Another option is to add moveable ottomans that are the same width as the sofa cushions.  They can be pulled up right to the edge of the sofa to give you the effect of a chaise while allowing more flexibility.

We like to keep several sofas in our store for clients to try out before ordering their custom sofa or sectional.  If you aren’t in the market for new upholstery just yet, come by our store for a colorful set of throw pillows or a cozy throw to drape across the back of the sofa.  After all, every room needs to be refreshed once in a while with some fun new accessories!
