While cooking over the Thanksgiving holiday, I thought about the movie Julie and Julia. As I watched this delightful biopic on celebrity Julia Child, I thought about this past year’s decorating projects. Her husband, Paul, set up the kitchen for cooking. Julia had every kind of culinary gadget available to her. What caught my eye was that her eating area was comprised of a table in the center of the kitchen. We continue to work on our surveys, What Women Want, and the kitchen prevails as the most important room in the house. Women want islands for eating, in addition to breakfast areas and gathering places. The kitchen of today is the new “keeping room” and women want it to be bigger and better. That is why our job is so important. We are the planners and designers to make it all work.
