When we start a new project, we generally try to select the countertops early because the materials selection, sizes, and colors are so varied. We decided that granite was the appropriate countertop for the Fairfax house. We decided on a Buena Vista older home, yet modern farmhouse look, mixing a little old with a little new. It was quite the sensation during the Parade of Homes with the public and especially with the new homeowners. The heart pine flooring was also central for the design we planned. In the Task Room, we selected a blue-green designer color from the Thibaut fabric that would be used for the draperies. The vision in our heads of the completed project was sort of like an artist’s canvas in the works. We knew how we wanted the textures and colors to flow and then set out to make it happen. On granite selection day, we planned to visit more than one granite vendor’s warehouse. We were fortunate to find a granite slab called Operetta Gold at OHM in Greensboro. This piece of granite had just the right colors, including blue and green, to go with our imagined décor.
