We are so fortunate and honored to have won both awards in the same month for our area of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For our Parade of Homes Platinum Winner at 32l7 Buena Vista Road, we started with the outside. The builder called us and said, “I need the roof shingle selection right away”. Normally we go ahead and select the brick to make sure the roof will work with it. This time, we wanted to paint the brick, but had to make some definite decisions to select the roof. After that, we moved forward to the inside and started with cabinet styles, cabinet colors, and hardware for the cabinets and countertops. With the countertops, we always go for the latest granite or quartz top we can find within budget. This year we used Calucatta Vintage quartz for the kitchen and a marble subway tile that had the same colors marbled throughout for the backsplash. The sink was a farmhouse sink which is very popular now. Don Hamrick, the builder, had some reclaimed antique heart pine so we utilized it for the kitchen island eating top, the barn doors for the TV cabinet, the back-entry hallway flooring, pantry shelving, and the barn door for the pantry. So, with the heart pine, a mood was set for antiques to be used as accessories in the pantry and the entire house. Antique accents and new accents for accessories were staged throughout the home. The colors were pulled as inspiration from a Thibaut fabric that was used for the curtains. It was not hard to flow these colors as there were both green and light blue in the curtains, which is my favorite combination.
For years we have collected vintage rugs, and they were used throughout the home. Runners and larger area rugs all flowed and worked within the space. New bedding was purchased from Bella Notte, which we are a dealer of at our Clemmons retail location. The bed was decked out with layers of coverlets, pillows, and throws. Hickory Chair nightstands flanked the fabric headboard from Miles Talbott in High Point. A gold starburst mirror was centered over the bed and framed antique intaglios hung on the opposite wall. A French vintage print also accented the wall beside the large window. Most people were caught off guard to see these treasures in one home. All of them are coming back to our retail store in Clemmons for our Christmas Open House event November l3th from l0 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be lots of music and cake to go around.
We proudly mixed modern and old to make this a true Buena Vista Home. One more thing, the shutters were designed by June DeLugas Interiors for style, size, and color. Many people commented on them.
