About 50% of our design projects involve helping our clients select countertops for kitchens and bathrooms.  We have researched every possible element that can be used for countertops. Quartz such as Caesar Stone or Silas Stone is becoming very popular.  The new quartz has some beautiful colors.  Quartz is a non-porous product. Metals of copper and stainless steel are becoming popular options.  Marble is the number one favorite, but I do my best to convince my clients to use other tops for the kitchen.  Marble has been around the longest, but has the highest maintenance.  Sealer must be applied several times a year and water is marble’s worst enemy.  Stains will sit on top of the sealer, but water creates spots.  My suggestion is to use marble in a powder room or a less used bathroom.

The newest look that is gaining a lot of momentum is leathered granite.  The process creates a textured non glossy finish and slightly changes the colors to a muted tone.

Remember, there are endless ideas when choosing countertops.  To alleviate the overwhelming decisions, call a professional to help select your granites.  You will not regret that decision.
