“Something’s Gotta Give” is a romantic comedy starring Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. While the comedic scenes and Keaton’s breakdowns are reason enough to catch this movie on Lifetime or Netflix, the magnificent house in the Hamptons is also worth a look. If you are going to have a mid-life crisis, why not have it in a fabulous home!

I’ve watched this movie dozens of times over the years and each time I see new details. I begin my mental walkthrough of the house in the kitchen. The main character is a world-renowned chef, therefore there is no more fitting beginning than the 48” Wolf gas range and a Sub-Zero refrigerator. In the past five years, white cabinets have made a huge comeback and kitchens like the one in the movie best illustrate the reasons why. We all enjoy the traditional, classic feel of the black countertops and hardware. Glass-front upper cabinets reveal shelves brimming with monochromatic pottery-style dishes.

The rest of the home combines palettes of blues and grays, softened by fabric that blends stripes and subtle prints. Modern art grounded by pieces of traditional art adorns the walls. Rugs provide another layer of texture and warmth. The lighting is scrumptious.

Keaton’s bedroom in the film is wonderful. It features a luxurious upholstered headboard and neutral linens with accents of color. Soft linen curtains surround and soften the windows in the house.

While all of us would love to have a million-plus home in the Hamptons, you might be surprised what can be done to your home to refresh the design. Color changes are some of the most high-impact, low-cost changes one can make. We even have a vendor who supplies all the lighting used in the house. Let our design firm show you how to transform your home into a haven. You might not be a movie star, but who says it’s impossible to live like one?

God Bless,
June
