This year has been an exciting year for us. We just heard that we won the WSJ Reader’s Choice Award. This is an honorable award and we are so appreciative of our clients for voting for us. The second award was the Fall Parade of Homes Platinum Award. This award takes a lot of hard work and planning to compete with all the other builders in the area. The house plans were well thought out and planned for months before starting the building process. For us, we start with the outside selections: roofing, brick, siding, and shutters. Then we go inside and honestly conceptualize as a canvas of color and design. This year our firm started with one piece of fabric to give us inspiration. That inspiration traveled with us to Atlanta where we found many treasures to accent our idea house to showcase for the fall. We called this house an idea house, because we gathered the latest fabrics, the latest trends, and the latest colors and put them all together in a house that we could share with the public, as well as our clients. Everyone said they loved the wallpaper in the dining room that also had matching fabric window treatments. Now, if that takes you back 30 years, for June it was something she grew up with; matching fabrics with wallpaper. Everyone thought it was a cool concept, but you know if you live long enough, you will see most everything come back around again. The matching wallpaper and fabric duo is not Waverly prints, as it once was. It is large geometrics and fun chevrons. To go with all the décor, vintage rugs were a big hit as well, which were displayed in all the rooms. They are a hot, classical way to update your home, even with modern furnishings. You see it in all the magazines and we saw it in all the showrooms in High Point and Atlanta with their new introductions. It that takes a lot of time to find rugs and select what you like. It is definitely not easy and you need a professional designer to help you if this is the way you choose to go with rugs. We are making rugs out of carpet and binding them as well. The good thing is we have a variety of patterns at June DeLugas Interiors, Inc., and we can do just about anything with the many carpet samples we have.
We named our showhouse “Buena Vista Gables”, which means cottage. The outside shutters were one of our favorite designs. We sketched the size and style we thought would be good and the builder had a local woodworker to make them. We selected coordinating paint colors for the outside; Benjamin Moore Classic Gray for the main part of the house and Sherwin Williams Light French gray for the shutters. Sherwin Williams Light French Gray was also used on the shingle siding in the center portion of the house. I must say that this house was one of our favorite Platinum awards of the five that we have won. The keeping room originally had a screened in porch. When we laid the plans out to review, we suggested to the builder that the screened in porch become part of the keeping room and kitchen. The area was cozy, but large enough for eating, gathering with friends and family, and entertaining. We designed curtains, furniture, the layout of the room, and ordered all the matching furnishings. In Atlanta, June bought 4 antique botanical prints that had the same colorations in the fabric and décor. We had them framed and they are hung proudly on the larger wall in the keeping room. The builder told us to indicate on the plans where to put the windows. We did a CAD drawing for the TV cabinet sizing and where to put the windows so the builder could go to work on framing. Next came finishes from June DeLugas Interiors that were provided to the custom cabinet shop to match. We decided to also put the custom blue finish (Benjamin Moore Jamestown Blue) on the wet bar and the pantry bottom cabinets. The builder had leftover reclaimed pine from his own home during last year’s build and we utilized it for the shelving above the pantry cabinets, the entry flooring from the back door, and the custom barn doors that were made in a chevron style. It is a beautiful décor and design and was well received.
God Bless,
June
