I am always thinking about design, projects, and our clients.  Driving back from my daughter’s home for the weekend gave my mind plenty of time to think and create.  What comes to mind when you think of cottage?  For me, it is Warm Welcome.  Entering a home that has enough old elements to make you feel that you are always invited.  Homes tell a story.  You can feel the home’s warmth.  The house itself is not what brings that feeling.  The family dynamics, some of their past, and some of their future, brings it all together to a Warm Welcome.

Let’s get started if you are ready to create a Warm Welcome to your home.  Start by pulling some of your family’s history out for us.  Pull some old rugs into the game plan.  Textures and textiles are always a plus.  The design of furniture, window treatments, rugs, wallpaper, and paint colors bring it all together.  Sometimes our clients want us to remodel the kitchen and master bathroom.  Most of the time they want what they see in magazines.  White kitchens will never go out of style, but clients are asking for more color.  Designers have become creative by painting the bottom cabinets one color and the top cabinets white.  An alternative is to paint the island, but make sure it flows with the colors throughout the house.  I also take into consideration if the kitchen is small or large if we paint the island.  If the kitchen is small, I typically keep all of it in the white family.  Some clients want wood, but the woods look different than in our past designs.  Smooth red oak whitewashed is one of the choices clients are seeing from California. They like them mixed with white.  We guide clients to a finished look that is what they visualize.  It is not hard for us to do.  We also create a painting of the finished look to work from.  Sometimes that is done with our renderings and sometimes showing them the elements to make it happen.
